Respite care provides traditional foster families the opportunity for a “break” each month or as needed, without the foster child.
This enables the foster parents or the foster parents and their biological children to spend time together, strengthen their
relationships, and reduce stress. Respite care is a benefit for foster parents, which may be planned in advance or used in
a crisis situation. Respite care is also a way for potential traditional foster parents to provide intermittent care for foster
children and gain experience with foster children prior to taking on a regular placement.
Respite homes are fully certified foster homes that may or may not have regular placement of foster children.
