Cultivate OKC Capital Campaign

A Letter From Our Capital Campaign Chairs

Since 2000, Lilyfield has had a strong reputation for protecting at-risk children through our comprehensive family support programs. Our services have expanded and adapted over the past 32 years to better and more fully serve vulnerable children and families in the state.

We have always responded to the needs of broken families and hurting children, no matter how challenging. Lilyfield is inspired by the vision of Casey Family Programs to build “Communities of Hope.” This model calls for mobilizing the nonprofit, faith, civic and business communities to respond in holistic ways to the challenges faced by families who face high risk of involvement with child welfare. The program is highly collaborative and built on the concept that the community must work together to respond to the needs of children and families before the trauma of separation through foster care occurs.

In 2018 we launched our Empower family strengthening programs using these models as a guide. We identified a neighborhood that has been largely ignored and where the human fallout has been significant. We purchased a building, hired employees, and recruited volunteers. Operating with a mindset of community development, we have prioritized hiring staff and leadership from the south Oklahoma City community.

Over the past five years, our work has grown beyond what we could have imagined. We are excited about our growth, but our current facility does not meet the current needs of our clients or programs.

Our Empower Family Resource Center at Exchange Avenue is already a place where children can play and study, and where counselors, mentors, and teachers can facilitate healing. The expansion will allow us to host more parent training classes, youth mentoring, and counseling but will also allow us to add new program offerings such as job training. Most importantly, it will be a space where families can grow stronger and build networks of safe connections.

Please partner with us as we move forward with plans to build a beautiful, welcoming space that will allow children and their parents to envision a future full of opportunity and hope.

Building a Better Family Resource Center

Through data shared with us by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, we have identified zip codes in South Oklahoma City that have elevated rates of children entering foster care. The communities have high rates of  child maltreatment, poverty, single-parent households and immigrant-led households. The community has little access to opportunities for healthy groceries, gainful employment, mental health services, or higher education. Schools, businesses, and homes are closed and left abandoned.

There is no single approach that can reduce risk and improve outcomes for children and families. We are building a Family Resource Center, a multi-faceted, wraparound approach to respond to the complex needs of families and communities at risk for abuse and neglect. This vision includes programing for every type of family:

Youth Mentoring

Providing comprehensive, evidence-based group mentoring services to at-risk children designed to improve child safety, mental well-being, and social emotional competence within partner schools, housing sites and at our family resource centers.

Foundations

Providing valuable parenting education and support for women of all ages as they embark on the journey ofpregnancy and/or parenting children ages 12 months and under. We provide individual and group counseling, education, and support services to help empower women to provide the solid foundation in life that is critical for young

Counseling

Serving individuals and families impacted evidence-based, trauma-informed, and attachment-focused interventions, who are disproportionally impacted by risk factors that increase mental health challenges.

Foster Care

Providing foster care for children ages 0 to 17 years who are in the custody of the State of Oklahoma due to child abuse or neglect. The Lilyfield staff and foster parents form a team to provide a healthy, healing environment to the children placed in foster homes.

AmeriCorps

Lilyfield AmeriCorps members serve as mentors for children and families in public schools in south Oklahoma City and North Tulsa. AmeriCorps members implement the Check & Connect mentoring program resulting in improved social and emotional skills for children at risk for child maltreatment.

Child Care

Our licensed childcare center offers high quality affordable childcare to children in South Oklahoma City, allowing parents the peace of mind to know their children are safe and well cared for while they work.

Bright Futures

Serving children and families through education support, family strengthening activities, individualized parent coaching, and other services designed to transform families and communities to be places where children are safe and can thrive. The Bright Futures program improves family stability by using a parent peer-support and coaching model to promote family stability in the communities.

Site Plan

In 2018, Lilyfield purchased a building located on Pennsylvania and Exchange Avenues in South Oklahoma City. In    2019, we purchased the lot to our existing property. We envision transforming our current building into a space that will truly belong to the community we serve. This comprehensive community center will add 8,000 square feet to our existing building, including counseling rooms, classrooms, and a  large  space  for  community  events.

This Family Resource Center will provide programming that benefits, enriches, and inspires our community – after school programs, sports programs, STEAM learning, medical services, mental health support, parent support groups, family fun nights, community gatherings, and more.

It will be a place where community members of diverse backgrounds will rub shoulders, learn from one another, and partner together to create a South Oklahoma City community where families are strengthened and children flourish.

A Letter from Our Executive Director

Dear Friends,

In the 14 years that I have worked at Lilyfield, we have reimagined the way we serve those in need in Oklahoma. We have looked at the data and research that says that bandaging a gaping wound will not reduce the number of children who enter the child welfare system each year. Traumatic experiences negatively affect children for the rest of their lives. Sometimes all an at-risk family needs is hope and empowerment.

Through our Community of Hope Capital Campaign, we can ensure space and resources for the families we serve at our EmpowerOKC program.

You can help us in our endeavor. You can provide a counseling office for a child during a crisis. You can provide a multipurpose room for children to safely study and play after school. You can provide a family room where parents with similar struggles can meet.

Please join us as we commit to creating lasting change so that families are empowered to be safe, resilient, and engaged.

Holly Towers, LCSW

Executive Director
